Firelight highlighted in new report on engaging communities and shifting power
We are honored that our work with our partners is highlighted in Imaginable Futures & IDEO.org’s new report, Learning Reimagined: The Next Chapter.
The report explores the role of philanthropy in creating more responsive, equitable systems for learners – and highlights key action areas, critical opportunities, and learnings from leaders in the field.
An excerpt from the report (p.9) mentions Firelight as an example of a growing number of: “…organizations that are shifting power to lived experts and creating mechanisms to bring marginalized voices to the table.”
It goes on to describe our work with youth in Kenya: “Working with deeply embedded community-based organizations, they used community research and co-creation to build a community-led plan for youth development. The implementation now seeks to ensure that these interventions are effective, sustainable and ultimately owned by the community.”
We celebrate the report’s vision: “Imagine a future where funders collaborate to establish sector-wide norms around engaging communities and shifting power.”
