Make it Happen Monday
Our weekly partner spotlight. This week we take a look at Jerusalem Children and Community Development Organization, JeCCDO, in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
One of the oldest indigenous organizations in Ethiopia. JeCCDO is making it happen! Working in four regional states and two cities, Jeccdo partners with 140 community-based organizations to improve care and support for children using sustainable approaches.
JeCCDO was founded in 1985 as a network of orphanages. Over time, they came to realize that the best place for children to grow up is with their own family. They worked hard to reintegrate children with their families. In the process, they learned that economic empowerment enables families to better meet the basic needs of children and improve their physical, emotional, and cognitive development. As a result, JeCCDO transformed into a community development organization, focusing on strengthening the capacity of communities to care for children. JeCCDO’s work provides vulnerable children the opportunity to develop their overall potential while being taken care of within their own families.
