Simon's story is one that many boys face who are growing up without their parents. He relies on his friends and community to provide the care and support every child needs to grow and thrive. Grassroots organizations like Development Aid from People to People provide an important safety net for children when parents are not available. Development Aid from People to People is a grassroots organization in Zambia and a Firelight grantee partner since 2002. This video shows their work to strengthen the capacity of guardians, schools and local communities to provide orphaned children with appropriate and affordable care and to increase awareness regarding the rights and needs of orphans. Firelight funds help DAPP to offer psychosocial counseling workshops to 40 caregivers and teachers and life skills workshops to 40 orphans and their caregivers. It also helps to cover the costs of educational materials and tools for income-generating activities.
